19th-Century Outbuilding
Eastern Shore, VA
This resource is one of a collection owned by a non-profit entity engaged in public education and outreach. The building is used for these purposes specifically, and the owners noted that there was a major crack and moisture damage evident in the public spaces. Historic research documented the crack as a long-standing issue, which had become larger over time. The moisture damage appeared to be more recent, likely resulting from work undertaken during a renovation. Monitoring and site analysis resulted in specific recommendations to facilitate evaporation and more effective water management, which will abate the masonry damage. Analysis also documented that the crack was not moving, and so remediation repairs will be delayed pending longer-term monitoring.
